Where do you collect your pebbles from?

I hand collect them from the North West coast of Scotland. I've spent quite a few hours, when I'm busy and can't wait for good weather, bent double in the wind and rain with my 'pebbling' box! As well as lots of much nicer hours of walking along the beach in the sunshine too.

Is it legal to take pebbles from the beach?

If you're collecting for commercial purposes, it's only legal if you've obtained the relevant consents.

I pay an annual fee to the Crown Estate to be allowed to collect from a very specific area of beach.

I also have written permission from SNH (Scottish Natural Heritage) and SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) and have to abide by restrictions they have placed on my work.

You can rest assured that pebbles bought from Pebbletree have been legally collected.

Can I choose to have anything written on my pebble?

Absolutely, if you would like to contact me you can check your wording but virtually anything can be written onto a pebble for you. The options on the site usually tell you the maximum number of letters you're allowed, and I can usually be flexible within a couple of letters! It just depends on the size of pebble I can fit it onto, and obviously I might need to charge a little more for particularly long wording.

Where do you get the translations for the reverse of the wish pebbles?

For the Scottish Gaelic wish pebbles I use my own knowledge of the language, with some help from a Gaelic dictionary! For all the other languages translations have come from the customer placing the order, or from one of the many online translation sites. I cannot guarantee that someone fluent in a language will always agree with my choice of translation - as all languages have several words with similar meanings not all of which are commonly used. However, I always do my best to find the most appropriate translation, and prefer to get translations from the customer whenever possible to avoid any errors. Indeed if you are fluent in any language and would like to add to my database please feel free to contact me with your wish pebble translations!

How much do you charge for P&P?

I've always hated shopping online when you don't find out how much the P&P is until the last page you reach! So since Pebbletree began I've always included UK P&P within each price to make it easier for you to work out how much your final bill will be. With each item there is an option to add 'express delivery', and if you are buying from outside the UK there are separate buttons which include Worldwide P&P - these are the only extra costs, and they are clearly labelled. There will be no surprises when you reach the checkout!

Why can't you dispatch your pebbles faster?

If you have a last minute special occasion it is always worth getting in touch, I will always do my best to get your order to you in time if I can - of course the more time you can give me the easier that will be!

Every item states that it will be dispatched 'within 10 working days' for standard orders, or 'within 5 working days' for express orders. I frequently manage to get pebbles on their way faster than this, but I'd rather allow extra time than end up sending orders out later than promised.

First the pebbles are collected, washed and sorted into boxes according to size. Then once your order comes in to me I choose your pebbles and hand print and write the wishes and personalised wording; coat both sides with varnish, waiting between coats for it to dry; and then package them before taking them to the Post Office. All this takes time, and allowing at least 5 working days covers me for busy spells too.

Will I get a discount if I'm ordering several items at once?

If you are buying more than 10 items please get in touch first, you will be entitled to a discount! The level of discount will depend on the quantity of pebbles you need, and the wording you'd like on each one. Once I have worked out an exact quote for you, I can either add a personal button to the website for you to pay the correct amount with a credit/debit card - or you can send me a cheque if you prefer.
